Hospital Diet Review
What You Should Know
The Hospital Diet is also known by the names of the Birmingham Hospital Diet, or the 3 Day Hospital Diet. The exact origin of the Hospital Diet is unknown, though we know it was designed for pre-surgery weight loss of up to 10 pounds in three days. Though the weight loss is quick, it is not recommended as a healthy way to lose weight because of the healthy weight loss recommendations of no more than two pounds per week.
Ingredients
The foods allowed during the diet are outlined throughout the meal plans for each of the three days.
Product Features
The meal plans work on the basis of chemical breakdown and therefore should not be substituted. Only salt and pepper should be added to the foods, and the more water a person drinks, the better. This diet is claimed to help you lose up to 10 pounds in three days, and though no hospital claims or supports it, many people use it as a jump start to weight loss.
Day one includes: black coffee or tea, grapefruit, toast with peanut butter, tuna with toast or cheese, 3 ounces of any lean meat, string beans, carrots or beets, small apple and vanilla ice cream.
Day two includes: black coffee or tea, one egg, slice of dry toast, half a banana, a cup of cottage cheese or a half cup of tuna, 5 saltine crackers, two beef franks, Cabbage or Broccoli, cup of Carrots or Turnip Greens, another half Banana and a half cup vanilla ice cream.
Day Three includes: black coffee or tea, 5 Saltine Crackers, 1 Oz. of Cheddar Cheese, 1 Small Apple, a hard boiled egg, a slice of dry toast, a cup of tuna, a cup of beans or Cauliflower, 1 Cup Carrots or Beets, 1 Cup Melon, and a half cup of vanilla ice cream.
Advantages
- This diet will help jump start weight loss efforts.
Disadvantages
- There are many suspected places of origin.
- Specific foods must be eaten in specific amounts.
- This is not a good long term diet plan.
Conclusion
The Hospital Diet, the three day diet, the tuna diet, whatever name you choose to call it by may work to help with weight loss efforts and jump start a diet, but because it is very restrictive and causes fast weight loss, we cannot recommend it for long term use. It is important to find a diet program that is not restrictive, is healthy, includes exercise and can be combined with a fat burning, appetite suppressing supplement. Weight loss plans that encourage weight loss at a rate faster than two pounds per week are not healthy long term options.
